Hourly pay range: $27.15 – $34.19

About the Role
CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASA's new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child's mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Mental Health Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.
The Rehab Assistant will:
  • Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Provide individual and group treatment within the SLP scope of practice (language, speech sound, social communication, AAC and related communication skills) and OT scope of practice (fine motor, gross motor, sensory, self-care and related skills).
  • Complete screens and informal assessments under the direction of the supervising SLP/OT (e.g. hearing screens, language samples, speech and language probes, and fine and gross motor observation/screening).
  • Provide rehab support and services to a number of concurrently-operating classroom teams and programs across multiple schools.
  • Consult and provide advice and educational services to patients and families regarding communication and related disorders.
  • Collaborate with the SLP/OT in creating program materials and activities.
  • Attend program meetings such as case conferences and business meetings, as appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation and record keeping about patient interaction and services on the patient working file and electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Assist the SLP/OT with a variety of clinical tasks such as preparing for treatment, assessment, presentations, file reviews and parent calls.

Qualifications
  • Therapy assistant diploma with proficiency in speech-language pathology, physical and occupational therapy; or speech-language pathologist assistant diploma; or occupational therapist assistant diploma.
  • Experience working with school-age children and adolescents.
  • Experience working in schools and education based programs.
  • Experience working in mental health is an asset.
  • Experience working in collaborative care models and/or multi-disciplinary teams is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
