Egg Farmers of Canada is presently seeking an Agricultural Statistical Analyst to join our Agricultural Policy and Costing team. Reporting to the Manager of Agricultural Policy & Costing, the primary responsibilities of the role include conducting accurate, comprehensive, and timely analysis of data pertaining to the Canadian egg industry.

This position is well suited for a recent graduate who enjoys project-based work and answering key business questions through statistical analysis.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Cost of Production (COP) study, including development of questionnaires, determination of sample size, evaluation of methods, interim updating techniques, and the implementation of cost formulas resulting from the surveys and updates.
  • Assist with the monitoring of the COP between studies and research to propose solutions to resolve any issues that arise in the COP update.
  • Conduct research and analysis of the COP, including input costs (e.g. feed; labour; capital costs).
  • Research sources, methodology to assess the accuracy and suitability of domestic and international data pertaining to the egg industry for COP purposes, Board materials, trade analysis, internal and external requests, and communications applications.
  • Compile, analyze, manipulate, verify and incorporate data for Board documents as well as write Board documents.
  • Monitor, analyze impacts, compile data, and prepare reports that accurately assess agricultural production, pricing, indices, and market indicators as they affect the egg industry
  • Assist in responses to requests for data, information, and analysis from the general public, government and government agencies, academia, industry, egg boards, and internal units.
  • Assist in providing critical qualitative and quantitative analyses of externally published analysis.
  • Evaluate data requirements, assess and review work conducted by third party consultants for various APC unit projects (e.g. COP Study, trade models, economic impact studies, etc.).
  • Assist in researching tools, models, or techniques that can be incorporated to APC unit processes in order to improve the quality of the data.
  • Work with the Agricultural Economist, Agricultural Policy Analyst and Data Analyst in support of the APC unit objectives such as monthly COP updates, updating data in EFC's databases, and calculating and publishing weekly prices (table, buyback).
  • Work collaboratively with the Agricultural Economist, Agricultural Policy Analyst and Data Analyst to prepare comprehensive analyses and reports to support the APC unit objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced analytical and computer skills, including in-depth knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas), and data analysis tools and techniques for the purpose of performing data analysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various agri-food sectors, food supply chain, and farm economics (livestock and crop production systems) is considered an asset.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and coordinate various tasks.
  • Excellent attention to details with a focus on data quality.
  • Strong statistical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform mathematical analysis including regression, correlation, time series analysis, indices, and tests of statistical significance.
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex analysis to a non-technical audience (both verbally and in writing).

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Statistics, Business Analysis). A master's degree in a relevant field would be an asset.
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience would be an asset.
