Customs & Logistics Specialist Job Description

Overall Responsibility:

The Customs and Logistics reports to Director, Materials and Logistics and is responsible for providing support and operational direction for AMTB Plant Customs and Logistics Management . Logistics activities, including all aspects of the company's Freight, Warehousing regionally. Customs Activities are to ensure all plants conform to all Government rules and regulations As a member of the AMTB Leadership Team, the Specialist is responsible for contributing to the overall Logistics strategy, establishing goals & objectives; external relationships and partnerships with Forwarders, Carriers and Government agencies.

Accountabilities:

  • Execute tracking and review of all Freight cost to assist North American Plants to enhance profitability, productivity and efficiency throughout the company's operations
  • Responsible for the coordination and implementation of regional Logistics strategies & systems. This would include the successful implementation and operation of CMS systems and the development of best practices in coordination with plant and other operational leaders to ensure adherence to Lean principles throughout the businesses.
  • Create shipment tracking BOL's in CMS to eliminate Freight tracker.
  • Complete full end to end Logistics review and RFQ annually.
  • Be an effective coach and mentor to Materials/Logistics personnel at different locations on matters related to Logistics.
  • "Freight in Standard Cost – Tracking Variances - CMS will keep track and determine variances to quoted freight"
  • Ensure robust programs are in place for the assessment of Customer Delivery, Freight, Warehousing, Premium charges and inventory management.
  • Ensure all facilities have full compliance of all Government rules and regulation. This would include Solicitation, completion and distribution of USMCA documentation
  • Monitor and coordinate management of TIB's
  • Management and completion of all Government Duty requirements including the monitoring, approval and request for refunds.
  • Ensuring accuracy of all Master data in CMS for Customs documentation - COO and HS Codes - Inco terms
  • Upholds the principles of the AMTB Business Protocols. Must understand and respect the laws and cultures in countries which AMTB conducts business & compliance's.
  • Reviews and assists plants in best practice.
  • Demonstrates leadership by establishing credibility; acting with integrity; showing commitment; inspiring, motivating and guiding purchasing teams to achieve strategic objectives & goals.
  • Ensure application of established corporate financial controls by providing operating management direction and support to the implementation and maintenance of financial policies, instructions, and control procedures.
  • Responsible for Budget preparation and planning
  • A key goal is to optimize our organization's Materials Management and logistics. This position closely collaborates with Plant Materials and Logistics, Operations and finance

Skills, Knowledge, & Personal Traits:

  • Bachelors Degree strongly preferred
  • Microsoft suite - Word, Excel, Project
  • Experience using ERP systems - AS400 and/or CMS strongly preferred
  • Global Market Place experience required
  • Customs Compliance experience
  • 2 years of leadership experience with a track record of progression. Demonstrated ability to lead in a large matrix organization, work collaboratively with colleagues, and get results through others.
  • Knowledgeable of business quoting and launch processes, industry best practices, standards and performance metrics.
  • Must have demonstrated success in satisfying OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in a complex, competitive automotive market. Functional experience in areas Customs and Logistics.
  • Able to ensure that all systems in the organization are aligned toward achieving overall strategic goals; continually communicate and reinforce the highest priority strategic initiatives to keep the organization focused on the right things;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong team player.
