Salary: $56.40 to $67.95 per hour

The Manager is responsible for the overall management of Medical Surgical Units and Women & Children's Programs. The successful candidate will apply management theory and concepts to leading, staffing, monitoring, controlling, evaluating, and data-gathering including the development of relevant outcome measures pertinent to these patient care areas. The Manager is accountable for the efficient, effective utilization of approved resources and for guiding and coordinating activities of the areas in accordance with professional standards and the mission and goals of the organization; including the planning, development and implementation of initiatives developed in response to needs of the population served.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide effective, efficient and quality services through competent administration of staff, facilities and financial resources.
  • Manage patient care processes that enable each team member to deliver high quality care and achieve excellence in clinical standards across the continuum of care.
  • Identify best practices and ensure the systems and culture are in place to facilitate ongoing development of a best-practice model of care.
  • Oversee staff development, providing coaching and mentoring as well as identifying, supporting and facilitating staff continuing educational needs.
  • Monitor staff attendance, counsel and/or takes other actions necessary in accordance with the Attendance Policy.
  • Resolve inter-departmental issues by liaising with other internal and corporate departments regarding shared resources such as beds, staff, and equipment.
  • Respond to patient care issues and public concerns in a supportive and goal-oriented manner ensuring effective communication and resolution.

Key Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related discipline, a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years recent and relevant clinical experience
  • Three to five years in a formal leadership role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and familiarity with union contracts preferred.
  • Experience with staffing and scheduling of employees.
  • Computer skills, including MS Outlook, MS Office – Word, Excel, Power point, internet.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, customer services and team building skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement a budget.
  • Emotional Intelligence and Leadership competencies.
  • Good attendance and availability required.
