Our team is growing and we're looking for keen and passionate people who are obsessed with helping customers achieve their goals. As a Ruminant Nutrition and Business Consultant, you will spend your time working directly with customers to deliver flexible business solutions, dedicated business expertise, and timely business advice to help clients realize their goals. This will include providing quality nutritional sales and service support on leading edge ration formulations utilizing premixes and supplements for dairy, beef and other ruminant producers primarily in the Central Alberta region and surrounding area. All this while continuing to advance your knowledge of both the industry and the science of ruminant nutrition

Working with us:

This is a permanent, full-time position. Your home base will be where you live, which means you will work remotely with access to our office facilities in Red Deer, Alberta. You will travel within the Central Alberta region up to 5 days a week. Travel to Northern & Central Saskatchewan may also be required. As a Ruminant Nutrition and Business Consultant you will have a fixed base salary plus an unlimited earning potential through commissions. GVF offers a competitive starting wage and vacation.

What you'll do:

  • Work to expand existing ruminant business by passionately pursuing all business opportunities.
  • Provide excellent sales and service support to customer accounts.
  • Ensure that accounts have all sales, nutrition and management issues resolved quickly and effectively.
  • Grow a book of business by actively planning and prospecting new customers to capture their business, turning them into active customers.
  • Provide routine barn tours, diagnosing existing challenges and providing ways to improve production parameters of operation.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for growth and work with internal and external stakeholders to drive growth initiatives.
  • Helping clients reach their financial goals and achieve financial sustainability
  • With the help of trusted advisors, identify ideal commodity buying opportunities and understand the current market risks.
  • Assist in the continued development and deployment of BI production tools.
  • Increase inventory management practices to lower operation and feed costs.
  • Learn to prepare rations that will suit your clients and prospects herds' needs and leverage our team of in-house nutritionists.
  • Effectively adopt new premixes, feeds, feed additives and services into your sales portfolio
  • Attend and participate in meetings, tradeshows, symposiums, seminars, and industry events.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting of account activity and submit reports as require.

Your background includes:

  • A true passion for agriculture and the dairy/beef industry.
  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Animal Science, Business OR equivalent work experience.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • A working knowledge of economic conditions and political events affecting small to medium businesses, especially the agriculture segment.
  • The ability to build and maintain key relationships.
  • Must possess tactical planning, implementation and organization skills. A high degree of flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks and functions.
  • The ability to identify underlying customer challenges and propose holistic solutions that add value for clients.
  • Willingness to learn and ability to quickly understand nutritional and sales knowledge.
  • Comfortable working on farm and with livestock.
  • A valid Canadian Driver's License is required.
  • Able to travel within your territory 5 days a week.
