We're best known for bringing beloved isometric roleplaying games like Baldur's Gate™ and Planescape: Torment™ back to life on desktop and tablets as Enhanced Editions. Reporting to the Design Director, the Senior Writer will help us craft compelling, immersive narrative content for our upcoming titles.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other writers, designers, artists, and Project Leadership to develop compelling story content, contribute to story vision and direction.
  • Work as part of the creative team to develop interesting characters and events within the game storyline
  • Craft character bios, including character motivations, key traits and compelling character story arcs through interactive storytelling
  • Write combat barks and quest banter that fits with the creative direction of the game.
  • Write and maintain lore for objects, locations, items, etc.
  • Support and contribute to the iteration process with high-quality collaboration

Requirements:

  • Previous professional experience as a writer in the game or entertainment industry. Must have shipped at least one game.
  • An advanced understanding of game-design fundamentals and principles including a strong understanding of branching narratives.
  • Able to craft a clear, coherent and engaging story.
  • Demonstrate an ability to create an emotional response in characters and players within the context of game narrative.
  • Understanding of editing standards and experience editing both creative and technical documents.
  • Able to collaborate across disciplines and respond to feedback/notes in a mature and timely manner.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help creative teams navigate game and project technical/resource limitations.
  • A basic understanding of game engines like Unreal, Unity, etc.

Bonus points:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Creative Writing, Theatre, or Film.
  • Experience with JIRA, Perforce, and other project management tools.
