Salary:

A full-time/permanent position as a Maintenance Supervisor is available in our Maintenance and Repair Department, located in Hamilton, Ontario. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for leading, supervising, coaching and coordinating our mechanical/maintenance personnel and contractors and establish a safe and efficient maintenance team, maximizing equipment reliability and product quality while minimizing maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize, plan, schedule, and coordinate all maintenance activities/programs/procedures (e. the monitoring, calibration, testing, maintenance, diagnosing, troubleshooting, upgrading, installation and repair of our all of our equipment and machinery) consistent with and in harmony with our internal customers' requirements, our maintenance budgets, our commitment to safety and the environment and the timely resolution of priority issues.
  • Provide leadership, technical support and coaching to trade personnel and peers to meet the needs of our internal customers.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and a collaborative work environment.
  • Develop and maintain excellent employee awareness, morale, customer satisfaction, and commitment through goal-focused employee training, supervision, daily communication, recognition, performance management, coaching, counseling, personal involvement and on-going employee feedback.
  • Collaborate with Production and Maintenance personnel to plan, schedule and supervise routine maintenance, break-in work and capital projects.
  • Utilize the Maintenance and Supply Chain Best Practices in conjunction with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for processing work orders, purchase requisitions, weekly schedules, PM's, and updating the equipment database.
  • Perform periodic inspections of equipment and systems to observe operating conditions and need for repair or adjustment,
  • Supervise repairs/projects to ensure quality of work and adherence to deadlines,
  • Ensure compliance to internal and external policies, procedures and regulations with respect to the Health and Safety of maintenance employees and site contractors.
  • Ensure that all mechanical related work orders are consistently processed to completion.
  • Plan and schedule on-site contractors in harmony with our maintenance & repair programs.
  • Recommend and implement improvements, changes, modifications to our maintenance & repair programs/procedures, tools, and/or equipment consistent with internal customers' needs.
  • Provide technical assistance during capital upgrading projects when required.
  • Maintain all required records and reports consistent with our commitment to ISO9000 and any other relevant standards.
  • Foster and promote with all employees an environment of continuous improvement; in particular, by identifying and recommending improvements to improve the overall efficiency of department.
  • Manage and control supplies inventory to meet our internal customers' needs and our maintenance budgets.
  • Ensure all maintenance programmes are in compliance with all applicable legal and company regulations and/or policies.
  • Perform all of the above-cited duties consistent with a hands-on perspective and a visible presence in our plant areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Mechanical Engineer preferred; Engineering Technologist or Trade certification or equivalent and asset.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in continuous process, chemical, or carbon-black manufacturing plant is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in plant maintenance/reliability; with rotating equipment, pumps, fans, blowers, bucket elevators, conveyer belts, dust collectors, venting and piping is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule work assignments and to complete the work safely.
  • Self-motivated and always working towards Reliability Excellence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Practical computer skills: (MS Office, MS Project, SAP, etc.)

Work Conditions/Schedule:

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights and work in dusty environments.
  • Able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • 8-hour regular shifts: Monday – Friday: 7:00am-3:00pm
  • Occasional overtime/on-call duties as required
