Durham OneNet Inc is an independent Municipal Services Corporation, wholly owned by the Regional Municipality of Durham. Durham OneNet's mandate is to design, build and operate a fibre-optic backbone network across Durham Region. Accounting Manager (Full Time Hybrid – Whitby, Ontario)

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for all accounting matters for Durham OneNet under the direction of the CFO, including:

  • Working with the CFO to create and maintain financial processes and controls for newly created entity
  • Overall management of the books for Durham OneNet
  • Selecting, creating, managing and maintaining our new accounting system and transitioning functions and duties from our parent company
  • Preparing all journal entries and reconciliations
  • Invoicing and Accounts Payable (low volume, high value)
  • Ensuring accurate recording of capital and assets under construction
  • Managing bank accounts including payments and cash forecasting
  • Closing month end and preparing all internal management reporting and Board reports
  • Preparing and filing tax returns with the assistance of third providers as needed
  • Assisting with year end audit
  • Coordinate financial reporting and accounting matters with our parent company
  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Program Managers on budget management, government claim submissions, invoicing and general business matters
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives

About You:

  • At least five years of Accounting experience, with at least two years in a management role
  • University degree or college diploma in Accounting is required
  • CPA designation or final stages of the designation is strongly preferred
  • Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office Skills
  • Proficiency using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite
  • Experience in a capital intensive environment would be a great asset
  • Exposure to telecom, construction, municipal governments and/or Public Sector Accounting Standards would be a benefit
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and quality

Compensation: Durham OneNet offers competitive compensation and a very attractive company paid benefits package, including extended medical, dental, vision and RRSP plan.

Conditions of Employment: Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected.
