Position Summary

As a TCP/Hoist Operator your primary responsibility will be to either work as a traffic controller or operating the personnel hoist. When there is no personnel hoist on site or you are not required to operate, you will act as a traffic controller or assist with general labour, completing various construction labour tasks, and assisting Carpenters and Skilled Labourers. You will maintain a clean and safe worksite by being proactive and independent. You will also be trained in the use of hand and power tools to further assist the Ventana site team!

Ventana site locations are spread across the Greater Vancouver area so site locations may vary.

As a Personnel Hoist Operator your key accountabilities will involve:

  • Operate the personnel hoist.
  • Perform inspections and safety checks on the hoist per Technical Safety BC guidelines and Ventana Safety Policies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hoist.
  • Coordinate and communicate hoist movements via radio.
  • Assist trades with loading and unloading the hoist.
  • Cover breaks and vacation days for other hoist operators, sometimes requiring you to move to another construction day for a period of a day to a couple of weeks
  • Clean the site by removing debris and sorting materials and recyclables appropriately.
  • Load and unload materials to and from delivery trucks and equipment.
  • Prepare and organize materials, tools, and equipment for tradespeople and skilled labourers.
  • Hand dig trenches, holes, pits, ditches, and clean-cut footings.
  • Use basic hand and power tools.
  • Conduct cement work, including mixing, cutting, and griding (required to be clean shaven).
  • Construction and demolition activities as directed.
  • Maintain site fencing and keep site perimeters clean and safe.
  • Perform water control, including pumping, drain maintenance, berms, and basin cleanout as required.
  • Set up and maintain heaters, fans, and general ventilation on site.
  • Complete and follow a field-level hazard assessment before completing tasks on site.
  • Report all injuries, incidents or unsafe working conditions to their direct supervisor or site HSE coordinator as soon as possible.
  • Report public or client concerns to their direct supervisor immediately.
  • Assist site team with other labour and carpentry duties as assigned.

As a TCP/Flagger your key accountabilities will involve:

  • Ensure that public (pedestrian or vehicle) traffic is safe from construction activities around the site.
  • Ensure that all disruptions to traffic (pedestrian or vehicle) are properly permitted, planned, and controlled.
  • Ensure the proper, approved traffic control plans are in place and accessible at all times.
  • Ensure proper traffic control personnel, signage, and equipment are always in place on the roadways.
  • Help coordinate the loading or unloading of materials from delivery trucks and equipment.
  • Keep the road, sidewalks and delivery areas clean, clear of materials and debris, and safe for use.
  • Manage public safety as it relates to vehicles and pedestrians within our work zones.
  • Communicate with other work crews (municipal, services, event) to ensure zones are not disrupted.
  • Coordinate with any crane operators for safe lifts over public areas and to ensure trucks positioned properly.
  • Act as a public liaison ensuring you are a friendly and courteous Ventana representative.
  • Perform other site duties, including cleaning, shoveling, concrete chipping, material loading, and using basic hand and power tools.

As a TCP/Hoist Operator your experience and qualifications will include:

  • A valid hoist operator and TCP ticket.
  • Customer-facing experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Communication in multiple languages is considered an asset.
  • Construction experience of 1 year or more is an asset, but all experience levels will be considered.
  • You are physically capable of meeting the job demands, including:
    • Working on your feet for 8 hours or more
    • Lifting objects weighing up to 55lbs
    • Carrying out physical tasks over extended periods.
  • Driver's License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Valid Safety Tickets are an asset.
  • Basic carpentry skills are an asset.
  • TCP experience is an asset.
  • High School Diploma is an asset.
  • Must supply your own work boots.
  • You are legally entitled to work in Canada.
