Introduction & Key Role Objectives

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK, with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland & the Philippines. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering and water treatment systems in various environments, including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.

WJ Groundwater is looking for a practical, capable, and qualified groundwater or geo-technical engineering professional with experience in the construction sector for a full-time position offering technical support during the design, costing, installation, and running of dewatering systems.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Assist the tendering team with the review of documents, the preliminary design and costing of dewatering systems, and follow-up meetings with Clients,
  • Liaise with the technical support team (back office) to prepare technical documentation and design drawings to support tenders and operations,
  • Carry out analytical and numerical groundwater calculations and modelling to support dewatering system design and running,
  • Plan and supervise pumping tests and other site investigation work,
  • Support the operations team during dewatering operations through analysis of system performance and provide practical inputs and solutions to problems,
  • Support Client's applications for permits related to taking, treating, and discharging water.
  • To be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant national legislation for our activities.

The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • An MSc in Hydrogeology or related geotechnical or engineering science,
  • A demonstrable and practical understanding of groundwater, groundwater pumping, and hydraulics,
  • Strong and proven problem-solving ability,
  • Experience applying for permits to take and discharge water,
  • Knowledge of geochemistry and water treatment an asset,
  • Experience of contract management an asset,
  • Eligible for or holding PGeo or PEng registration.

Working Conditions

The role is predominantly office based at our Eglinton office, but you will be expected to visit sites for meetings, site walkovers, and during some site work such as investigation and pumping tests.
