It is the philosophy of the Childcare Services unit at WoodGreen to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, cognitive and emotional growth of each child through a balanced use of high-quality activities and experiences. This position will contribute to the smooth operation of the childcare program by performing the duties outlined below.
This position is responsible to the Manager for assisting in the implementation of the program on a daily basis according to the needs of the children, in recognition of the program goals and objectives, and in accordance with the Provincial Government's Childcare and Early Years Act, 2014 and the City of Toronto's Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI).

This position is responsible to the Manager for assisting in the implementation of the program on a daily basis according to the needs of the children, in recognition of the program goals and objectives, and in accordance with the Provincial Government's Childcare and Early Years Act, 2014 and the City of Toronto's Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI).
What You Will Do
- Assist in the supervision of children as assigned.
- Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the children under care.
- Ensure that childcare areas are disinfected on a regular basis. This includes tables, chairs, cupboards, countertops, cubbies, etc.
- Ensure that kitchen areas are disinfected on a regular basis. This includes cupboards, countertops, stove tops, coolers, etc.
- Responsible for wiping tables and chairs before meals/snacks, setting tables, clearing and disinfecting tables following meals/snacks, and assisting in the serving of meals/snacks as required.
- Responsible for doing laundry according to schedule and in emergency as required.
- Responsible for doing dishes according to schedule.
- Responsible for disinfecting toys according to schedule.
- Responsible for preparing/handling food hygienically and ensuring that all food is kept at appropriate temperatures until it is served.
- Responsible for working in cooperation with other staff to maintain high standards of operation.
- Attend staff meetings and unit meetings as required.
- Responsible for the upkeep of equipment and furnishings, for informing the Manager when replenishment is necessary, and for assessing equipment needs and making recommendations regarding purchases.
- Responsible for keeping track of kitchen/laundry supplies and informing the Manager when replenishment is necessary.
- Responsible for upgrading training and education as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfil the job's responsibilities.
- Ensures the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
- Responsible for abiding by the Childcare and Family Services Unit's and WoodGreen's policies and other regulations as stated in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and the City of Toronto's AQI (Assessment for Quality Improvement) criteria document. This includes Behaviour Management/Child Guidance Policies.
- Participates in regular supervisory sessions with the Manager.
- Performs other related duties as required from time to time.
What You Bring to the Team
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C
- Health assessment, including up-to-date immunization records and TB test required.
- Food Handling Certificate
- Experience in licensed childcare work and activities.

- Ability to communicate orally with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to stand for extended periods; to work at the height of children.
- Ability to work some overtime.
- Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels, and occasional inclement weather.
- Ability to work with chemical substances contained in cleaning supplies.
