Welcome to Normative. We're an innovation firm that helps companies find product-market fit. We believe in a world of evidence-driven innovation where truth matters, technology enables trust, and people create value that is accessible to all.

We're looking for a Design Accessibility Lead to play a pivotal role in ensuring that our digital and print materials are accessible to individuals with diverse abilities, particularly those affected by rare diseases. You will be responsible for reviewing existing secondary research on the diseases our client's customers live with, translating symptoms into potential disabilities, and providing actionable recommendations to enhance accessibility across various channels.

Our projects involve multi-disciplinary teams and this role collaborates closely with design, technology, and strategy to help bring insights into action. We begin by understanding customer pains and gains that are then translated into hypotheses. From there, we design experiments that produce the evidence and validation needed to make good business decisions

What you'll be doing day to day:

  • Review existing secondary research on two diseases to understand symptoms and translate them into potential disabilities experienced by patients.
  • Summarize how these disabilities can manifest across key channels such as web, phone, and print.
  • Provide a comprehensive list of design best practices to overcome these disabilities across the identified channels.
  • Conduct an audit of our client's brand guidelines to assess if adjustments are needed to accommodate accessibility requirements.
  • Audit 2-3 specific customer experiences and provide heuristic reviews with recommended adjustments to enhance accessibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement accessibility enhancements and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

What we offer:

Our team is deeply passionate about creating a welcoming, supportive and engaging culture. We are looking for passionate people who are excited about creative methods, problem solving, and collaborative work, like us! We are committed to you and we offer:

  • Mentorship.
  • Experience in different design research practices and methods.
  • Consistent and constructive feedback.
  • A remote-first and distributed working model. This allows us to operate with a diverse group of team members across time zones.
  • An asynchronous approach to working to allow for flexible hours to adjust to personal working styles and schedules.
  • A committed leadership team that is constantly improving Normative's value proposition through team surveys and regular feedback.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in accessibility, with a preference for omni-channel accessibility or web accessibility.
  • Proven experience conducting heuristic assessments and providing actionable recommendations to meet accessibility requirements.
  • Deep understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Passion for inclusivity and a commitment to advocating for the needs of individuals with disabilities.

Accommodations and Accessibility:

Normative provides employment accommodation during the recruitment process. Should you require any accommodation, please indicate this on your application and we will work with you to meet your accessibility needs.
