Construction Inspector, OSP (Full-time)

Reporting to and under the direction of the Sr. OSP Program Manager, the Construction Inspector responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand and implement local construction methods and procedures as required.
  • Conduct overall OSP aerial and underground construction supervision in the field.
  • Ensure adherence to construction maps and verify daily production quantities of construction contractors.
  • Review permits and Right-Of-Way (ROW) considerations and requirements, including utility locates.
  • Witness and monitor work activities, inspections, and testing in accordance with approved quality plans, site surveillance plans, procedures, and processes.
  • Verify compliance with Client, and Industry Specifications while Outside Plant construction is being constructed.
  • Overlook and edit “As-Built” forms for delivery prior to approval by Sr. OSP Program Manager.
  • Communicate with Manager daily on field findings.
  • Effectively understand and communicate project timelines, milestones, identified concerns and risks.
  • Perform quality inspections on work as it is being performed, or work that has been recently completed, utilizing established checklists and/or other quality related documents and digital tools.
  • Maintain records and prepare inspection reports daily, while supervising contractors.


About you:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Civil Construction; existing and new placement of underground infrastructure for telecommunications.
  • A working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong background in placement of fibre-optic cable via aerial and underground construction.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, Municipal Consent drawings, and splice diagrams for fibre construction.
  • Moderate familiarity and ability to use computer and electronic equipment as part of a digital construction management project.
  • Fibre, Fibre Network, and Outside Plant knowledge.
  • History of adhering to strict safety procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team-oriented environment.
  • High degree of focus and attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs (27kg). and perform repetitive physical motions of bending, standing, climbing, and walking in construction zones.
  • A valid drivers license and your own vehicle.

Compensation: Durham OneNet offers competitive compensation, project mileage coverage, and a very attractive company paid benefits package, including extended medical, dental, vision and RRSP plan.

Conditions of Employment: Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected.
