Role

Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, install and calibrate electrical components and systems. Familiarity and knowledge working with breakers, switchgears, circuit breakers, relays and transformers as well as monitoring for any reportable occurrences of equipment and system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of Electrical Switchgears, Breakers, MCCs, pumps and related equipment within a substation
  • Report any unusual occurrences when monitoring equipment and system operations
  • Perform preventative maintenance by inspecting and maintaining electrical equipment, systems, and buildings
  • Conduct full load testing of generators on a monthly basis and weekly inspections of emergency generators
  • Complete monthly audits on inventory of tools and spare parts
  • Inspect energy meters and related equipment and log equipment readings
  • Conduct monthly safety inspections of first aid kits, fire extinguishers and ladders
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution or Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial environment
  • Knowledge of infrared testing and transformer oil testing is required
  • Experience in substation would be a major asset, ie. 144kV and 240kV
  • Experience with calibrating and troubleshooting instrumentation such as electrical components and relays
  • Familiar and good knowledge of electrical distribution systems
  • Competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and have a valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Able to work alone or with minimal supervision and make effective technical decisions in emergency situations
  • Willing to work out of town and on rotation

This opening is for the Marathon Gold Valentine Lake Project starting June 1st and end in November of 2024

Schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off

10-hour days (7:00 am to 5:30pm). Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours in a day as well as after 40 hours in a week.

Travel time to and from site will be paid at base rate, and travel provided by employer from St John's.

This will be a camp based job, all accommodation and food provided.

Starting wages of $35.50 up dependent upon skillset and years of experience.
