Job Description

Accountabilities:

  • Provide immediate assessment and intervention for individuals who present to the Emergency Department in crisis due to symptoms associated with a serious and severe psychiatric problem, addiction and/or psycho-social problem(s)
  • Work collaboratively with hospital colleagues in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Nursing or Counseling/Psychology with a combination of relevant experience in mental health and addictions
  • Registration with the appropriate professional college
  • Minimum of three years recent, related experience in crisis intervention in the fields of mental health and addictions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of best practice guidelines in crisis intervention and crisis theory
  • Excellent assessment and counseling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and advocate for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Demonstrated ability to develop care plans for those in crisis
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster community linkages and resources
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing quality customer service in dealing with the public (patients and families) as well as various clinical professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in computer skills mandatory
  • Excellent attendance record

Additional Information

Hours: Currently days/evenings/nights, with overnight, weekends and statutory holidays as the crisis program is a 24 hour service which runs seven days a week (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
