Program Summary: SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation is pleased to announce openings for Junior Summer Camp Leaders. This is an opportunity for Youth to begin a journey of learning and leadership within our community. As part of our dedication to growth and development, Junior Summer Camp Leaders will have the privilege of learning from the Education Assistants, Coordinators, and Elders. Through this experience, they will gain invaluable insights into effective leadership from experienced professionals. Under the guidance of our mentors, Junior Summer Camp Leaders will explore the essentials of camp management, ensuring the creation of a safe, engaging, and culturally enriching environment for our camp participants. Join us as we foster growth and excellence in our summer camp program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Job Shadowing Education Assistants: Work closely with Education Assistants to observe and learn effective leadership practices. Follow their directions and guidance to gain practical experience in camp coordination, activity facilitation, and participant engagement.
  2. Facilitation of Activities: Assist Education Assistants in organizing and leading a diverse range of activities, including cultural camp activities, land-based experiences, and curriculum-based lessons. Embrace opportunities to actively engage with camp participants and foster meaningful connections within the community.
  3. Supervision and Support: Provide attentive supervision and support to camp participants under the direction of Education Assistants. Maintain a safe and inclusive environment, ensuring the well-being and enjoyment of all camp participants throughout the summer program.
  4. Professional Development: Take advantage of the learning opportunities provided through job shadowing to enhance leadership skills and knowledge of effective camp management practices. Seek feedback from Education Assistants and actively reflect on experiences to continuously improve as a Junior Summer Camp Leader.
  5. Professionalism and Attitude: Demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude at all times. As ambassadors of SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation, it's essential to embody our values and set a positive example for our campers.
  6. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with Education Assistants, senior staff, Elders, and other team members to coordinate camp activities, address challenges, and celebrate successes. Maintain open and transparent communication channels to ensure the seamless operation of the summer camp program.
  7. No Phone Policy Adherence: Strictly adhere to the camp's no-phone policy. As role models for our youth, it's crucial to demonstrate the importance of unplugging and being fully present in the camp experience.
