Salary: $21.00-$22.50

To provide client centered care to those with acquired brain injuries and physical disabilities as assigned and document all care provided as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As directed, will aid with personal hygiene, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, and toileting as well as dispensing and administering medication.
  • Assists clients with basic cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.
  • Participates in cleaning of client apartments as needed including but not limited to garbage disposal, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, dust, wipe, polish, laundry etc.
  • Helps clients as needed with respect to meal planning, and grocery shopping including attending grocery shopping as needed
  • Takes an active part in the preparation of various meals. Prepares and cooks complete meals, snacks, etc. with safe food handling and preparation, safety, and health standards.
  • Assists clients in attending appointments when necessary and may provide transportation.
  • Observes and monitors the condition of clients and reports changes in physical or mental condition.
  • Is responsible and accountable for the documentation of care and services provided. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Aids clients in their own homes/program and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently.
  • Facilitates physical, recreational, social, and educational activities.
  • Recognizes potential crisis situations, analyzes such situations accurately, develops strategies to deal with such situations, and informs the Manager when such incidents arise.
  • Recognizes potential emergency situations, analyzes situations accurately, develops strategies to deal with such situations i.e. prompting medications, dealing with client's aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client, staff, and/or the public.
  • It is the responsibility of the Worker to ensure that all requirements are met to provide safe transportation i.e. proper driver's license, brake check.
  • Provides input to management with regards to the development of client scheduling and programs, participates in program evaluations.
  • May operate office equipment such as: cell phone, tablets, personal computers, photocopiers, printers and reports any needed repairs
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of internal fire regulations and procedures, and other emergency procedures. Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Residential and/or community settings with some travel to office environments, appointments and meetings.
  • Majority of work is carried out in client's homes.
  • May be exposed to infection, tobacco smoke, domestic pets and behaviorally difficult clients when in residential and/or community settings.
  • Must be able to handle the working environment changes from one residential and/or community setting to the next.

Experience & Qualifications

Education: A minimum one-year PSW Certificate or equivalent is required or currently enrolled.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year direct experience in the provision of in-home personal care and/or community-based home care service delivery; experience with clients with acquired brain injuries and/or physical disabilities, mental health and addictions is an asset.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required for interaction with the variety of clients, families, and health care professionals in this industry.
  • Proficient understanding of tablet and/or smart phone technology to navigate Alytx app on many devices.
  • Proven ability to provide personal care effectively and safely, personal support to those with acquired brain injuries and physical disabilities within a home setting.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow direction and work independently, exercise good judgment, and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of acquired brain injury and/or physical disabilities

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain current certifications as applicable
  • Must demonstrate the willingness and ability to work with clients of all ages, including children, adults, and the elderly.
  • Must possess a Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain one.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours in a home, school, and/or community setting as required.
