Looking for a new Principal

Our client is on a mission to make cities all over the world happier, healthier and more inclusive. They are global experts in urban wellbeing, bridging the gap between wellbeing research and design practice. They are looking for a new Planning or Urban Design Principal who will help us take their firm to the next level.

The ideal candidate has 15-20+ years of relevant experience, is excited to join their journey of curiosity and experimentation, and is ready to lead them in implementing evidence-based, wellbeing-centred, transformative change in cities. Importantly, they are looking for someone who shares their mission and values, and who is interested in growing with their young and dynamic team.

About the Client
The client are a unique urban design, planning and research consultancy. The firm was founded around 8 years ago to bring life to the vision laid out in their co-founders best-selling book.

They have since grown into an interdisciplinary team of planners, architects, wellbeing experts, mobility nerds and communications specialists. They have been changing lives in communities big and small, from East Vancouver to Dubai and beyond. Their core service offerings focus on community planning, public space design and programming, equitable engagement, as well as groundbreaking research and design strategies to help city-builders nurture wellbeing in multi-unit housing

The ideal Principal
They are looking for a new Principal to help them grow the company's impact. They seek to continue delivering impactful work that creates tangible, lasting change for happier, healthier and more inclusive cities. We seek:

  • Someone with 15-20+ years of experience delivering large, complex projects in the fields of community design, land use policy, and/or public space.
  • Someone with knowledge and expertise in the development and planning process, particularly in British Columbia.
  • Someone with strong technical planning and design capacity to guide and develop our company with our project leads.
  • Someone who offers leadership and strategic guidance on how to make impactful change in cities.
  • Someone who has a demonstrated ability to nurture relationships and business development opportunities that help expand the company's revenue and project types.
  • Someone who cares deeply about, and has a track record in, making positive change for wellbeing, equity and health in cities.

During this next phase for their organization, they hope to achieve the following:

  • Continued leadership and recognition as the global experts on urban wellbeing.
  • Translation of our research and knowledge into tangible impacts on cities. We want to see units built, policies approved and urban spaces transformed — thanks to our work.
  • Growth in company revenue and expansion of recurring income streams.
  • Growth in geographic reach beyond Canada, particularly in Western U.S. (in the short term) and Europe (in the medium term).
  • Ability to regularly win and deliver multidisciplinary, complex projects that generate real change in cities.
  • Continue growing the company into a model for inclusive, equity-centered urbanism firms.
  • Strengthen the companies reputation as a firm made up of team members with diverse experiences, perspectives, and interdisciplinary skill sets
