SENIOR MAGNETIC REASONANCE IMAGING (MRI) TECHNOLOGIST

(CASUAL)

A casual Senior MRI Technologist position is available within our Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Palmerston and District Hospital site.

North Wellington Health Care has recently received approval for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program located at our Palmerston & District Hospital site. This Senior MRI Technologist will participate in the planning and development of the MRI program, with a targeted start in the fall of 2025.

This position has recently been unionized with OPSEU.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior MRI Technologist will:

  • participate in the planning, organization, and coordination within the MRI program
  • provide effective leadership by utilizing mentoring, training and coaching skills to develop an efficient and successful MRI team
  • develop protocols and/or procedures in coordination with Lead Radiologist
  • responsible for organizing the staffing schedule, assessing staffing needs to meet accuracy and reliability standards and requirements
  • make recommendations based on the service budget and monitor the service expenditures against the budget
  • work with vendor to optimize scanner operations and organize preventative maintenance plans
  • performs the range of duties within the scope of practice of MRI Technologist
  • act as the primary liaison between the clerical, technologists, nurses, PACS support, management, Radiologists working in MRI and volunteers
  • participate in interdepartmental and corporate teams as required
  • contribute to care planning that is safe, appropriate, tailored, timely, and maximizes the potential of the available equipment and resources
  • follows MRI safety practices for the protection of the patient, colleagues and self
  • contribute to high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care that is in accordance with the College of Medical Radiation Technologist of Ontario standards and WHCA's mission, vision, values and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma (Degree) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the CMRITO as an MRI Technologist required
  • MRT plus MRI certification required
  • Registration with CAMRT - preferred
  • Minimum 5 years technical experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • MR safety officer certificate program - preferred
  • Leadership and mentorship/coaching courses an asset
  • Current BCLS
  • Must be IV certified
  • Demonstrated understanding of all applicable regulatory standards and legislation
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, conflict management and organizational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the practice of MRI procedures and quality assurance
  • Thorough understanding of participant key safety issues e.g. adverse events, incidents and risks and ability to recognize hazardous situations and take appropriate action
  • Experience providing safety training and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and standards
  • Experience with overseeing and troubleshooting scanner and peripheral equipment
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities. Able to take the lead and show initiative
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member
  • Ability to work professionally and accurately under stressful conditions

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory performance and attendance required
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
  • Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment including providing proof of full COVID vaccination prior to being hired

HOURS OF WORK:

  • As per department schedule
  • On an as needed basis
