The Nunee Health Board Society (NHBS) is seeking an experienced Community & Public Health Nurse to join our talented Community Health Team. Nunee Health is located in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, 250 km north of Fort McMurray, one hour by air with population of approximately 1200. The Public Health Nurse will primarily be responsible for providing services to families, individuals, and communities to promote health and wellness and to prevent illness. The PHN assumes general public health nursing responsibilities, including immunizations in well child clinics, adult clinics, schools, influenza, and other mass immunizations programs. This position includes maternal and child health services which provide strength based anticipatory guidance, home & clinic visits, prenatal & postnatal programs, breastfeeding support, screening & referrals, and advocacy. The PHN is involved in communicable disease surveillance, follow-up, preventative management and follows the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation and performs all other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for the community members within the geographical location of Fort Chipewyan, AB
  • Lead a talented team with all supervisory duties; planning, program delivery, staff management.
  • Provide Assessments for clients' needs.
  • Organize and manage a caseload and possess effective decision-making skills, must also be able to work collaboratively with other health care providers and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the planning, coordination and evaluation of Community and Public Health Services provided in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the general public, health center staff and related professional groups.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • BScN degree from a recognized Post-Secondary institution, must be able to provide proof of education credentials
  • Current Criminal Records Check and Valid Driver's license.
  • MUST BE Licensed and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) and must be able to provide proof of certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience working in Community & Public Health.
  • ACLS, PALS, BCLS, First Aid Certificate and Immunization certification.
  • You will possess excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills, proficiency with computers, and be medically fit.
  • Maintain accurate records, document and reports. Previous experience with electronic charting systems (EMR/CHIP) an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge in working with Indigenous populations
  • Must have a valid driver's license, (class 5 minimum)

Rotation in and out of community will be considered (with travel reimbursement) if relocation is not an option.
