Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will play a key role in building the systems and processes required to provide accurate and timely job cost and financial analysis to management. The ideal candidate will have experience with job costing in an oil and gas related industry, is self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and in a collaborative environment.

Position Summary

  • Record expenses including credit card expenses, expense reimbursements, vendor payments, and subcontractor payments and reporting.
  • Review and approve coding of purchase orders and other expenses related to job costing.
  • Follow up on outstanding job costs and purchase orders.
  • Assist with customer and vendor credit applications and setup in the software system.
  • Assist with customer audits and rebate calculations.
  • Assist with calculation of cost-to-complete projections for jobs and job cost analysis.
  • Track actual performance against budgets and provide explanations for variances.
  • Provide insights into financial trends and cost implications including up-to-date costing for quoting.
  • Work with departments to establish cost optimization processes.
  • Prepare and present financial reports related to costs and profitability.
  • Assist in the development of quarterly and annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare and present cash flow projections for current and future jobs with consideration of current accounts receivable and payable.
  • Equipment management and tracking through the software system.
  • Prepare revenue and cost accruals for monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare reconciliations, record journal entries, and prepare supporting working papers for monthly financial statements.
  • Support annual financial statement audit and provide requested documentation.
  • Assisting administration with customer invoicing and purchase orders as required.
  • Other financial and cost accounting duties as required.

Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a cost accountant in an oil and gas related field with experience in job costing and standard costing.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including data mining and building cost modules.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel with experience in V-Lookups and pivot tables.
  • Experience with working in Viewpoint Spectrum software system considered an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or other closely related field.
  • CPA designation with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Highly collaborative with strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Requires deadline driven, high energy individual, able to work autonomously and lead as key contributor on teams.
