Qualifications
Education:
  • Completion of Grade 12, all students must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation.
Experience:
  • Experience in assisting adults in the use of technology is an asset
  • Experience in planning and presenting children's programs is an asset
Overall Purpose: In alignment with BPL's programming and digital literacy strategies, and under the guidance of the Community and Programming Librarian, the Tech Buddies Program Leader will focus on researching and developing a volunteer-based drop-in technology assistance program for adults. In addition, the role includes delivering a multi-week, inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program that will inspire children to explore STEM and build their confidence in these areas through hands-on learning.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Research to determine tech needs and best practices for offering tech help to adults in the Burlington community, including data gathering from stakeholders and research for partnering and funding opportunities
  • Plan and facilitate a multi-week Tech Buddies program curriculum for children ages 6-12
  • Develop a model for a volunteer-based drop-in assistance program for adults to get help with technology.
  • Develop the process, training, and documentation for the volunteer-based drop-in assistance program.
  • Complete an evaluation summary of technology needs for adults including recommendations for future programs.
  • Perform additional position-related accountabilities assigned by management.

Work Environment
  • Most work is completed in public library spaces, while customers are present, with little exposure to noise, dirt, or external elements.
  • Some work is completed in office space, moderate level of computer and phone use.
  • Some outreach events are held offsite.
Physical
  • Normal physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting and the use of basic motor skills.
  • Some continuous physical exertion required such as moving, changing, and setting up for programs or community spaces; shelving, shifting, packing and unpacking boxes.
  • Ability to move materials and supplies (up to 50lbs)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend and stretch to reach high and low shelves
Mental
  • Perform routine tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail on a computer
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and diplomatic demeanor at all times
  • Moderate focus while delivering programs
  • Moderate stress for meeting timelines, competing priorities and people/relationship management

Working Hours
  • BPL is open seven days a week and schedules include regular evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to drive between library branches
