We are looking for a full or part time Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team! The Pharmacy Technician will work in the mail-order dispensary to help prepare, fill and dispense prescription medication to our patients. The Pharmacy Technician will support the Pharmacist by assisting with day-to-day operational tasks, such as drug utilization reviews, inventory management and pharmacy administration. Pharmacy Technicians will have access to other Pharmacists and Technicians for questions and concerns as well as support from management.

Job Description

The pharmacy technician is responsible for entering and filling prescriptions with accuracy and efficiency. In addition, they will communicate with customers regarding pharmacy services and clarify issues with medical team members. They will be overseen by the pharmacist. This is a great opportunity for a pharmacy technician role in a non-traditional retail environment.

As a pharmacy technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the pharmacy team and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications to patients. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Our site offers a unique opportunity for technicians who have experience in traditional pharmacies but are also self-starters. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the technician has oversight of the pharmacy and is the primary patient care advocate within the location. The technician will complete the customary daily tasks of a pharmacy, and will be in charge of maintaining inventory, completing pharmacy transfers, providing education on the use of medical devices, filling prescriptions, signing off on refill prescriptions, adhering to policies, procedures and processes, etc.

Technicians have the opportunity to virtually communicate with an interprofessional team including pharmacists, nurse practitioners and dietitians and prescription consults are completed virtually as well.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Inventory Management experience
  • Communicate with patients via phone or email regarding refills, insurance coverage and medical history.
  • Liaise with clinics, pharmacies, and other vendors
  • Accurately process prescriptions through Kroll including third party adjudication.
  • Assist Pharmacist or the pharmacy assistant in filling prescriptions.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation is entered into the appropriate systems to maintain high quality customer service
  • Prepare and process billings, claims and related documents
  • Aid in management assigned tasks and projects
  • Work collaboratively with Pharmacists, nurse practitioners and Supervisors to ensure the operations are maintained appropriately.
  • Check and approve final release of prescriptions within the scope of practice.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision would be an asset.
  • Provides high level patient care services a majority of the time which includes, but is not limited to, medication history collection, dispensary operations, and/or education on medical devices
  • Offers quality or process improvement ideas and techniques based on specialized skills to provide the best and accurate care for patients, to providers, and in support of the pharmacist and clinical staff.
  • Provides input on enhancements, workflow changes, operational advancement opportunities and system wide standardization programs.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries from patients
  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing pharmacy operations.

Qualifications

  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
  • Ensure technical accuracy of prescription products prepared for release
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare professionals

Skills

  • 2-3 years of experience in providing services as a Pharmacy Technician having exposure with automated dispensing/mail order pharmacy
  • Excellent communication skills and computer knowledge
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and ability to multitask
  • Experience in performing independent technical verification of prescription
  • Excellent customer service, and leadership
  • Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel, Google Sheets
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the requirements of our evolving business
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where high attention to detail and accuracy is essential
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record
  • Previous use of SYNMED or PACMED system and Kroll an asset
  • Proficiency in bigcommerce/shopify, stripe, square, gorgias (or other customer service platforms) an asset.
