Our dynamic Geomatics team is looking for a Survey Crew Chief in Cranbrook, BC. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that encourages this attitude in all team members. You will have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors and the timeline of the task at hand. You believe in working safely and refuse to compromise your and others' safety by taking shortcuts to save time.

This role is located locally in Cranbrook and the successful candidate would be required to relocate to Cranbrook if they do not already reside there.
What you will do:
  • Manage and perform construction and legal survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Act as a company representative and liaise directly with client field representatives and landowners.
  • Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in proper formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Perform office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
  • A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary program in surveying and geomatics or an equivalent amount of related experience.
  • 3-5 Years experience in a Survey Crew Chief role completing construction and legal surveys is required.
  • LSIT designation preferred but not required.
  • Strong working knowledge of both GPS and Total Station (Including Robotic) survey equipment and software such is a requirement for this position.
  • The ability to interpret plans and adapt to changes in client requirements is an asset.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace as well as continued pre-access testing before accessing client sites.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract and background check.
Job Conditions:
  • The primary work location is in Elk Valley 1.5-2 hours from Cranbrook.
  • The work location is remote and will require the successful candidate to stay in a hotel or camp 5 to 7 days per week.
  • There is the possibly for a night shift on an infrequent basis.
  • Carrying, lifting, and pushing up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Working outside in all weather conditions.
