Position Summary

The Career Coach – Career Services assists, coaches and provides information for individuals of all demographics looking for work in Calgary. They collect, organize and analyze information about either clients or learners through multiple sources in order to advise on employment and training. Within a collaborative model, they will provide group-based, career and employment coaching and case management services to either clients or learners who require assistance in their job search and career goals.

The Career Coach will:

  • Provide one-on-one career coaching.
  • Collect and analyze information to provide up-to-date and accurate job search and labour market information.
  • Facilitate employment focused workshops.
  • Conduct learner case management.
  • Connect with stakeholders in the community to assist either clients or learners looking for employment

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Career Coaching

  • Assists either clients or learners in looking for professional employment through one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Assists either clients or learners with resume writing; implements effective employment search strategies and develops interview skills.
  • Reviews, records and interviews either clients or learners to determine service needs.
  • Develops and documents a specific action plan that identifies actions towards career or employment goals that are specific, measurable and attainable within a specified timeframe.
  • Demonstrates proven cross-cultural awareness and ability to communicate effectively across cultures.
  • Helps either clients or learners develop a better understanding of their unique education, work experience and skills.
  • Uses various assessment tools to help either clients or learners identify their needs and abilities and relate them to the world of work.
  • Identifies employment requirements and helps either clients or learners develop plans for reaching their career goals.
  • Helps either clients or learners deal with barriers to achieving their career plans.
  • Identifies ways to use strengths to overcome career/employability barriers.
  • Helps either clients or learners with job retention strategies.
  • Helps to organize a variety of networking and either client or learner events to enhance engagement.
  • Researches and keeps up-to-date with industry, occupational requirements, labour market, and employment trends to help either clients or learners make realistic decisions.
  • Actively keeps track of employment related events and promotes BVC Career Services and its programs to other community service providers.
  • Provides coverage for other team members as needed.
  • Performs other duties in related area as required.

Workshop Facilitation

  • Coordinates the schedule and delivery of workshops
  • Develops materials for delivery and on main topics of career searching
  • Facilitates online, in-person, and hybrid workshops on career searching
  • Helps to develop marketing material and helps to promote the workshops through various digital and traditional marketing methods

Administration

  • Ensures key metrics are tracked and targets are reached monthly and annually based on their specific program and its fit in the team.
  • Maintains accurate up-to-date client or learner files and data.
  • Writes reports, researches information, and performs related administrative tasks such as keeping records and maintaining client or learner files.
  • Collaborates with team members to promote services to their clients and community.

Professional Engagement

  • Builds relationships with community organizations, employers, professionals from a variety of industries and various stakeholder groups.
  • Arranges information sessions and guest speakers in collaboration with career coach team and with employers, professionals, licensing bodies, organizations, and service providers.
  • Assists employers in filling job openings and addressing their skill shortages.
  • Acts as a representative for BVC at tradeshows and community events.

Required qualifications:

  • Diploma (post-secondary) in Career Development, Social Science, Business, or Education and Human Services (bachelors preferred)
  • Minimum 1 years' experience in a similar role
  • Police information check including a vulnerable sector
  • If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire

This opening is a part time (FTE 0.6) project, AUPE position until June 30 2025. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.
