This is a fully remote based role, however candidates must be located within driving distance of the Toronto, Canada metro area. Note: this is a long-term Independent Contractor position.

Summary

The Solutions Architect is an expert enterprise Python, SQL, and AWS backend engineer who is responsible for partnering with BriteCore's Insurance Policy Administration customers to address their most complex challenges. What you'll do

  • Design and implement highly scalable and reliable B2B enterprise integrations
  • Work with customers and Product Management to design enhancements, write epics/stories, and then code those enhancements
  • Design and implement reporting solutions in a regulated environment
  • Provide enterprise ISV level support to large-scale customers
  • Develop a deep knowledge base in Mutual P&C Insurance best practices and work processes
  • Host regular meetings with the executive engineering teams at our largest customers
  • Provide Enterprise ISV (Independent Software Vendor) Level Support to BriteCore Customers building their own customizations to the platform
  • Work with the customer's development leaders to re-architect and optimize our Python monolith to support customer innovations and explosive growth to ensure performance, stability and expandability
  • Optimize, automate, and support our legacy monthly data delivery and reporting solution, and replace the Python/Panda based technology with SQL and Quicksite datasets and analytics
  • Work with DevOps to define appropriate DataDog monitoring to ensure 99.99% uptime and forecast needed horizontal and vertical scaling and coding optimizations needed to ensure that our fast growing customers continue to receive the performance and stability needed to run their business
  • Work with the customer's technical teams to leverage this DataDog error, performance and RUM monitoring to quickly identify and resolve critical coding and configuration issues

What you'll bring

  • Computer Science, technical degree, or equivalent practical experience with a solid understanding of programming concepts
  • 7+ years experience coding in Python in an enterprise SaaS environment
  • 3+ years of experience with leading a 5+ member software engineering team
  • Well versed and comfortable with a linux operating environment, including application debugging, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Expert level knowledge of:
    • MySQL or other SQL Database
    • Database and query optimization
    • Application Performance Tuning
    • Cloud Application Design and Delivery
  • AWS Technologies
    • EC2, ECS and Lambda & API Gateway
    • Amazon S3 - Files and Vendor integrations
    • CloudWatch - writing queries
    • Step Functions
  • 3+ years of experience with B2B integrations at scale
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Scrappy, comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and learning as you go

Bonus points

  • 3+ years of experience working with RIA Technologies and Patterns, such as VUE, jQuery, react.js and Knockout JS
  • Familiar with Jinja code, code templates
  • Experience with using DataDog to tune applications and identify issues
  • Experience working in the insurance space is highly desirable
