Primary Purpose:Supervise all public works projects and staff, including performance of equipment maintenance. Ensure duties performed are in compliance with applicable municipal, provincial and federal policy and regulations. Other duties at the request of Council or the Administrator.
Salary: $32 Per hour Location: McLean, SK Hours: 7:00am to 5pm (Monday - Saturday) Staff Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Inspect employee time sheets:
  • Verify that days and hours worked and sick leave are correct.
  • Ensure employee has notated duties performed, equipment details (type & fluids) and has signed the time sheet.
  • Once you have verified the information contained is correct, sign the time sheet.
  • For Non-Salary Employees, remit verified time sheets to the Administrator on the first work day after the 25th of each month (unless notified by the office of a date change).
  • For Salaried employees, remit to the Administrator the as soon as practically possible after the last day of the month.
  • Ensure all Public Works staff receive the necessary training and direction for all activities and or duties they are to perform, including administrative record keeping.
  • Ensure all Public Works staff are informed regarding work related municipal policies and requirements.
  • Ensure all Public Works staff have completed the Powered Mobile Equipment course for any equipment they are required to operate.
  • Ensure all Public Works staff wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Establish a staff schedule to ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized.
  • Supervise all public works projects and staff, assigning duties as required.
  • Ensure all Public Works staff perform and keep equipment maintenance records and log books as required by the municipality and any government entities.
  • Implement the Progressive Discipline Policy, if required.
  • Notify Administrator of any on the job employee injuries so they may be reported to the Workers Compensation Board.
Permit Requirements: ⮚ Submit Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit documentation (project location, type, culvert size, etc.) to the municipal office. You will be notified when the permit has been received. ⮚ “Dial before you Dig” Before commencing any projects that require excavation.⮚ Ensure written copies of any necessary permits have been obtained and are provided for all pieces of municipal equipment and/or contractor equipment prior to commencing work. ⮚ Contact Saskatchewan Environment (Compliance) to arrange site inspection prior to commencing work and upon completion of all projects that required an Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit (e.g. projects where water is present, drainage, etc.). Other Responsibilities and Duties: Provide accurate written records of activities such as:
  • Sign theft/damage - include date of discovery; digital photos and corresponding photo detail (date, time, location, etc.) mitigation measures (e.g. temporary signage) and date of sign replacement.
  • Road damage/signage/repair - include date of discovery; digital photos and corresponding photo detail (date, time, location, etc.) and mitigation measures undertaken (e.g. temporary signage or repair).
  • Road accidents – weather and road condition at the time of the accident, digital photos and corresponding photo detail (date, time, location, etc.).
  • Road closures – document date of discovery, date and type of signs posted. Contact the office regarding temporary closures (for the day) so information can be provided to callers. Provide sign closure report to the Administrator for any roads that will be closed longer than one day, so emergency services can be notified.
  • Removal of beaver obstructions - include date of discovery/inspection; discussion with affected property owners; consideration of timing windows; digital photos and corresponding detail (date, time, location, etc.) of obstructions and area downstream to point of adequate outlet.
  • Complete construction worksheets for all projects (culvert installations, road construction, etc.) as the work is completed.
  • Provide accurate records of Channel Clearing activities (culvert clearing, beaver obstruction removal) to the Administrator.
  • Ensure safety certification is obtained for applicable vehicles/trailers.
  • Obtain over dimension/weight permits as required.
Administrative Duties
  • Order parts, small tools & equipment, fluids and other shop supplies as required. **High value items must be pre-approved by Council**
  • Order and arrange installation of road signs, ensuring the installation meets the requirements set out in the Signing Manual.
  • Order and arrange installation of culverts (obtain price quotations for large orders).
  • Once per week (or more) stop at the municipal office:
  • Drop off signed invoices with applicable category notated (Lii.e., shop supplies, equipment number, etc.).
  • Ensure all Credit Card receipts are handed in with applicable category noted (Lii.e., shop supplies, equipment number, etc.).
  • Pick up public works information (permits, catalogues, correspondence, etc.).
  • Completed Delivery Receipts and Contract Work orders.
  • Provide the following information to the municipal office each month:
  • Verified and signed employee time sheets and time off requests
  • Grader, mower and snow plow reports
  • Custom Work Billing
  • Provide the following information to the municipal office annually:
  • Vehicle odometer and equipment hour readings at the end of the year
  • Listing of culvert inventory at year end
  • Listing of blades inventory
  • Assist in the implementation of an asset management program regarding infrastructure and equipment.
