Mainland is hiring! We are looking for experienced Excavation Foremen to join our team.

The Excavation Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities of the excavator operator crews, working with the Superintendent to plan work and ensure all resources (people, materials, and equipment) are in place each day.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings.
  • Provide direction to the crews at the beginning of each day and then keep the crews updated and on track with the daily schedule, providing advice and guidance
  • Work with the Operators/ Excavation crew, client, and superintendent to understand upcoming requirements and communicate with the Dispatcher in organizing the daily activities of the job
  • Ensure forward planning in the ordering of materials and setting up sub-contractors for layout, delivery of supplies, density and pressure testing, proof rolls, beam tests etc.
  • Responsible for communicating job progress, information and updates to inspectors and internal departments
  • Ensure pre-locate are performed for all existing utilities that may conflict with job site activities
  • Attend meetings to discuss job production, schedule, conflicts and provide toolbox updates to crews
  • Ensure accurate and daily reporting of timesheets and work orders are provided to head office
  • Organize and complete an inventory of materials at jobs end for removal from site
  • Responsible for training and development of crews
  • Understand and support full compliance with Mainland Safety Management Plan (SMP) requirements by all employees and sub contractors
  • Understand and support full compliance with Mainland Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained
  • Incorporate health, safety, quality, and environment expectations into the planning of all projects and work
  • Visibly promote health, safety, quality, and environment in the workplace through actions, example, and attitude

Qualifications, Experience & Skillset

  • 2-5 years + previous experience as a Lead Hand or Foreman, and a solid understanding of all aspects of Operators/Excavation in shoring sites
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of shoring or excavation works projects from start to finish and an ability review plans
  • Able to work with all members of the crew, keep them motivated and assist with crew responsibilities as needed
  • Must have an ability to interact with professionalism and courtesy with clients and members of the public
  • Must possess valid Class 5 Drivers License and be able to travel to sites across region.
  • Maintain quality results of work to be done.
  • Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
  • Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
  • Work as a team with other crew members on daily activities of the site.
  • First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset.
  • Understanding of Safety and ability to communicate Safety issues as they arise
  • Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all shift standing, walking, lifting, and carrying, working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
  • Flexibility with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and possibly work across both our divisions (deep excavation and civil site services)
  • Must be local to the Lower Mainland
