Job Title: Surveyor - Contract

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the Surveyor will work collaboratively with the Operations and Projects teams to conduct all field surveying requirements and geospatial data management. This role will provide in-field survey guidance ensuring compliance with engineered drawings and principles.

This position is seasonal in nature and the duration of the employment term is expected to be 6 months, depending on workload and construction season.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Act as the main point of contact for all survey activities
  • Interpreting 3D Drawings for field control
  • Convey engineering drawing details to Operations and Project teams.
  • Staking out control limits for Projects and Operations guidance
  • Perform topographical surveys.
  • As-built active mining and development areas
  • Ensure accuracy of as-built data
  • Maintain as-built maps accurate record keeping.
  • Perform regular audits of as-built data
  • Assist Geology with material type identification (PAG/NAG, Ore/Waste) and staking in field
  • Assist Drill and Blast crew with drill hole staking and drill pattern preparation
  • Survey underground utilities as required and maintain an accurate infrastructure as-built map
  • Conduct aerial drone survey of the mine site

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or equivalent experience.

Experience / Skills

  • A Minimum of 3 years of related experience is required.
  • Mining/Industrial experience is essential.
  • Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), GIS programs (ArcGIS); experience with 3D mine modeling software is an asset (AutoCAD, Deswik).
  • Knowledge and experience working with RTK GPS equipment and surveying software.
  • Effective time management, planning and communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods.
  • Adaptable to change, ability to operate in less than perfect conditions and with less than perfect information at times.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or individually.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
  • Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
