The Laboratory Technician provides scientific and technical support to the Analytical Services Division of the company. This role is located in Saskatoon, SK and involves providing laboratory analysis and reporting results without interpretation or judgement to the supervisor. The Lab Technician is expected to handle analytical procedures and repeat lab projects independently after successful training. This is an entry level position, with the opportunity to grow into a bigger role.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Perform routine analysis of samples.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus and prepare solutions and sample formulations. Ensure that the assigned laboratory and equipment are clean, well-organized and in good working order.
  • Assume increased technical knowledge, skills, and capabilities, under the direct supervision of the Analytical Laboratory Manager or senior technical staff. Become familiar with and confident in performing procedures independently after successful training.
  • Assist in analytical procedure development. Learn new analytical procedures on an ongoing basis to meet project and company requirements.
  • Achieve harmonious, productive working relationships with other departments within the company.
  • Develop and improve technical skills on an ongoing basis.
  • May be assigned activities from the next classification level as a training program with a view to advancing responsibilities and furthering personal growth and development.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Chemical Technology, a degree in a related field or other related post-secondary education is required.
  • Previous related experience is an asset, but willing to train for an entry level position.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills, strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong technical aptitude and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and safety (WHMIS) is required. Knowledge of first aid/CPR is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, and ability to learn specialized in-house programs.
  • Previous work experience in a similar position and ability to work with complex analytical instruments will be assets.
