School Bus Driver & Trainer

Job Summary

This role will dually commercially operate as a School Bus Driver, fulfilling both morning and afternoon home-to-school routes and professionally train drivers in between routes. Through mentorship and modelling, helps to impart the required knowledge, skills and abilities to new recruits hoping to join our fleet of professionals. This role will work less than 35 hours per week.

Job Duties

  • Operate School Bus Driver duties.
  • Conduct on-road School Bus Driver instruction, training and certifications, including administering written & practical road tests for driver renewals
  • Responsible for reporting, tracking, evaluations and documentation
  • Conduct Road Evaluations for new drivers
  • Assist and monitor the completion of New Employee Onboarding (NEO) documentation collection
  • Update relevant databases as required
  • Reports training activities to Operation Manager and Safety Supervisor
  • Work directly with the Safety Supervisor to ensure that all drivers' licensing and training are current; assist the Safety Supervisor with annual driver reviews
  • It may be required to cover routes as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Class-B license for a minimum of three years
  • No demerit points, convictions, and no at-fault accidents
  • Successful completion of the "Ontario Driving Instructor Course" to obtain a Signing Authority
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to teach others and impart STC values
  • Successfully pass a commercial driver's medical
  • Meet pertinent vision standards
  • Successful completion of the School Bus Driver Improvement Course
  • Successfully obtained First Aid & CPR certification

Physical & Additional Requirements

  • Ability to walk, bend, twist and turn
  • Sit for extended periods of time with repeated arm and shoulder movements to open and close the door
  • May be required to climb for the cleaning of windshields/wipers and other simple tasks
  • mechanical functions
  • Ability to travel based on business needs to various interprovince locations

Working Conditions

  • Hours of work include darkness and changing light conditions
  • The work environment may be uneven terrain and snow/ice covered
  • Working temperatures may consist of severe cold in winter
