Reporting to the Manager of Community and Youth Development or designate, this position will include the planning and delivery of programs targeting children and youth 5-18 years who are struggling with their mental health, social/emotional regulation and/or behavioural challenges.

ROCK's Summer groups and camps offer a supportive and engaging learning environment that nurtures success for children/youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; For children/youth struggling with body image/disordered eating; And for children/youth looking for support with emotional/self-regulation, self-esteem and social competence.

Please note that this is a Canada Summer Jobs initiative, working 35 hours weekly within an eight (8) week timeframe ending August 23rd, 2024.

SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the creation of summer groups and camps while following ROCK's established program templates for Camp Unity, Our Community Cares, and Targeted Prevention Camps, while ensuring to meet the trending needs of clients in the community.
  • Ensure program content and delivery are responsive and respectful to the equity, diversity, cultural and linguistic needs of the community. Ensure programs are suitable for a range of abilities and ages.
  • Facilitate summer programs that include games, crafts, life skills, social skills and recreational skill building activities for a diverse group of participants.
  • As part of the larger team, participate in managing client registration.
  • As part of a larger team, ensure all program evaluations are administered.
  • Work with ROCK staff to create and maintain documentation for clients as required in ROCK's online client database.
  • Participate in all program-specific training and orientation, as required.
  • Escalate any group concerns to the onsite Supervisor.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings with Supervisor, either in person or virtually as required; participate in learning opportunities through mentorship support with ROCK staff.
  • Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care and, by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
  • Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibilities as outlined in the agency policy and procedure documents.
  • Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Student in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a child/youth community-based environment, preferably, providing groups or camps.
  • Knowledge of and experience with child and youth mental health and/or FASD, is an asset.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be organized and able to multi task.
  • Proficiency in use of technology as required of the position, including working in a virtual environment with MAC OS experience preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • A valid CPR, First Aid Certificate.
  • Access to reliable transportation to be on site
  • Possession of a clear, current (within 3 months) Criminal Reference Check with vulnerable sector search.
