Salary Range (hourly): $38.46 to $48.46

The Opportunity

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on the floatel alongside in Canada. They ensure the efficient operation of electrical infrastructure, safety compliance, and support the overall functioning of the floatel.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Electrical System Management:

  • Design, plan, and oversee the installation of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and control systems.
  • Ensure proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Monitor electrical consumption and implement energy-saving measures.
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Coordinate with the engineering team and external contractors for specialized repairs or installations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure electrical systems meet safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Stay updated with electrical codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with classification societies and regulatory authorities for inspections and audits.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure smooth operations and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address electrical requirements and provide technical support.
  • Provide guidance and training to electrical technicians and crew members as needed.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities.

Project Management:

  • Plan and manage electrical projects, including upgrades, installations, and system expansions.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of previous experience as an ETO or in a similar role within the maritime industry, preferably onboard a cruise ship or other passenger vessel
  • STCW Reg. III/6 electro-technical officer
  • STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training and instruction for all seafarers
  • STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
  • SOLAS Ch III, Evacuation Slide training
  • STCW Reg. VI/3 advanced fire fighting
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and relevant codes/regulations.
  • Training in handling electrical, navigational, and communication equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal)
  • Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.

Working Conditions

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
