This project seeks to build a collaborative System of Care between women's shelters, emergency service providers, and community organizations. This System of Care will ensure that those who need shelter get a space, and those whose risk can be managed in the community are cared for as well. An accurate assessment of an individuals' risk to imminent harm is key in the success of the System of Care. Therefore, we are seeking to develop an imminent risk assessment tool.

As the ShelterLink Intern, you will be responsible for completing a systematic literature review that will identify and examine validated measures of imminent risk and offer recommendations for interview questions and process to consider for inclusion in the newly developed and utilized ShelterLink Assessment Tool. For this internship, YW Calgary has partnered with Alliance against Violence Adversity (AVA), where you will receive mentorship and guidance from AVA's Scientific Director. We are seeking a motivated, organized, results-oriented individual to join this project.

This position is a temporary contract for a current or returning student. Detailed working hours and schedule can be negotiable. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Collaborate with AVA Project Manager and Scientific Director to identify scope of research and methodology, timeline, etc.
  • Present project plan to ShelterLink Project key stakeholders, incorporating feedback as required.
  • Identify and access relevant sources from various databases including APA PsycINFO (Ovid), MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), and Scopus.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of research activities and data.
  • Synthesize and analyze the sources to identify the main themes and gaps in literature.
  • Collaborate with AVA Project Manager and Scientific Director for the completion of this project deliverable.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with key project stakeholders from YW Calgary, AVA, and FearIsNotLove.
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; recognizing that individual differences significantly contribute to our success.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
  • Must be currently enrolled or returning to a post-secondary education.
  • Graduate degree, and social services field preferred.
  • Knowledge of the domestic violence sector, specifically risk assessment, is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability of completing literature reviews and relevant reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
