Overview:Our client is currently seeking a Process Engineer – Steam & Recovery to join their team. As a Process Engineer, you will provide technical assistance to continually improve efficiency, effectiveness of the pulp mill and steam and recovery operation through troubleshooting, problem solving and innovation. You will foster excellence in safety, production, quality and environmental performance.
What you will be doing:
  • Use of PI in order to troubleshoot and resolve operating problems with existing processes and change or adjust the continuous process.
  • Investigate root cause through monitoring, testing and research
  • Decides/recommends course of remedial action to resolve; process issues affecting production and environmental issues in his/her area.
  • Optimize the existing processes by identifying cost, quality and environmental improvement opportunities and recommend course of action.
  • Work with department supervision to improve overall operation of the plant.
  • Assist with new processes and start-up of new equipment by providing technical information and support to the operations group and ensure design requirements are met.
  • Prepare justifications/background for the submission of appropriation requests and capital projects.
  • Provide environmental impact assessments and monitoring, and identify and resolve any environmental issues in the assigned process area. Ensure the compliance of all mill, federal and provincial environmental policies and procedures are met.
  • Continual monitoring and/or reduction of chemical and water usage.
What you must have:
  • Must possess a degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of pulp mill and recovery processes is a definite asset.
  • Advanced experience, knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Experience identifying process changes and improvements.
  • Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • A proven high level of troubleshooting skills - analytical, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various departments and individuals (internal and external).
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Results focused and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent computer skills - working knowledge of PI and SAP would be an asset.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
