Job Summary

The WIL Marketing & Communications (Digital Marketing Coordinator) Intern will support the WIL Marketing & Communications team with our social media and marketing strategy through the design and creation of graphics and posts, offer creative ways to incorporate student and employer stories for marketing purposes, and assist with overall Marketing & Communications programs related to the TalentED YYC pilot project.

Students currently enrolled in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, New Media, Graphic Design, Visual Effects, or another related field are welcome to apply.

This is a 12-week Term.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Brand advertising campaigns (print, digital, out-of-home, social)
  • Social media messaging and promotion
  • Events
  • Collateral (ex: brochures, signage)
  • Web development and content
  • Lead generation campaigns (ex: email nurturing campaigns)
  • Public Relations
  • Media Relations
  • Sponsored Content

Client Services

The Digital Marketing & Communications intern will learn how to efficiently and professionally communicate on behalf of the organization. They will be required to provide exceptional client services for key stakeholders, existing clients, and potential clients. They will also experience internal client service experience by developing internal briefings and assignments for management and other staff as required.

Teamwork

Teamwork skills will be essential during the internship and will be developed further as the intern works and collaborates with their team and other Calgary Economic Development staff to achieve their deliverables and overall company goals. As part of the Marketing & Communications team, the intern will collaborate closely with Marketing, Communications and Events teams to assist with ongoing projects and events.

Communication Skills

Throughout the internship, the Marketing & Communications Intern will develop written and oral communication skills as they will be required to regularly communicate with peers, clients, and key stakeholders. They will also develop oral communication skills while attending meetings and events, learning to network and discuss the organization's objectives.

Digital Skills

The Marketing & Communications Intern Intern will develop digital skills in relation to Marketing programs, social media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, Office 365, Concur, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Customer Relationship Management Software.

Supervision Plan

The Marketing & Communications Intern will report directly to and work day-to-day under the supervision of the Marketing & Communications Manager (WIL) who will provide guidance on a day-to-day basis. This individual will provide the intern with a framework on how performance will be assessed and a list of expected deliverables for the internship term. Progress on deliverables will be tracked and discussed through weekly meetings. At the midpoint and during the final week of the internship, the Marketing Manager will hold meetings with the intern to provide them with an assessment on overall performance on the work achieved to date.

Team Mentoring

The Marketing & Communications Manager will act as the intern's main mentor for the duration of the internship. The Manager will train the intern and will guide them in terms of deliverables specific to the WIL Marketing & Communications Team. In addition, the intern will work closely with the rest of the WIL team and other staff from Calgary Economic Development who will provide them with guidance and input that will ensure they are able to perform at a high level and deliver work that is of value to Calgary Economic Development and its stakeholders.

Canada Summer Job Eligibility:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • Youth hired for a Canada Summer Job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laid-off and are awaiting recall, employees on vacation, employees on maternity or parental leave.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labor market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labor market.
