TITLE: Recreation Worker (Canada Summer Jobs)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor

LOCATION: Cookstown

POSITION TYPE: Temporary, Full-Time Contract (8 weeks with possible 4-week extension)

HOURS OF WORK: 35 per week

COMPENSATION: $19.62 per hour

INTRODUCTION:

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children's mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Engage youth (ages 12 - 17) in the Live-in Treatment program to develop, plan and implement a variety of recreational activities that promote well-being and life skill development.

  1. Collaborate with youth to assess needs and goals related to recreational activities.
  2. Plan, organize, promote and facilitate a wide range of inclusive reactional programs.
  3. Seek regular feedback from youth to continuously improve programs.
  4. Collect, evaluate and provide data for reports.
  5. Assist client(s) in making referrals to Community Resources as needed.
  6. Attend recreation meetings and coordinate with staff to maximize participation in programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Post-Secondary Education in Child & Youth Worker, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology or Social Work program; completed or in progress.
  2. Experience working with youth in a recreational setting.
  3. Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at start of employment and be able to work in Canada. Must meet other Canada Summer Jobs requirements.
  4. Lifeguard Certification or First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.

  4. Collaboratively approaches problems from a solutions and strength based perspective by reviewing the viable alternatives and determining the best course of action.
  5. Recognizes, initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.
  6. Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve.
  7. Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.
  8. Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
  9. French language is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to work flexible hours including evening hours, if required.
  2. Willingness to participate in recreational activities in the community, if required.
