We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Resettlement Assistance Program Youth Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

The Resettlement Assistance Program Youth Worker is to support newly arrived government-assisted refugee (GAR) youth during their stay at temporary accommodations in Hamilton and Brantford. The RAP youth worker collaborates closely with Wesley Youth Services, the Provincial Youth Outreach Workers teams in Hamilton and Brantford, and external youth-serving agencies to support and connect newly arrived government-assisted refugee (GAR) youth with essential services. Additionally, they work closely with Client Support Services to ensure a seamless transition to settlement services at Wesley.

This position is a unionized, full-time, temporary position. The contract end date is March 31, 2025. The rate of pay is $23.23 per hour. The hours for this position are 37.5 per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome, interact with, and support clients accessing the program and be available and approachable to address youths' needs as they arise.
  2. Provide comprehensive and client-centered information and referrals regarding available community services and resources.
  3. Coordinate and co-facilitate youth workshops in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  4. Foster close collaboration and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues both within and outside the organization, including Wesley's Youth Services and Client Support Services, to ensure seamless service delivery and integration.
  5. Engage in regular supervision and consultation with the Supervisor of the Resettlement Assistance Program.
  6. Participate in team meetings with the Provincial Youth Outreach Workers teams and settlement teams, actively identifying emerging issues, service gaps, and opportunities for collaboration to enhance community capacity.
  7. Adhere to Wesley's policies and procedures.
  8. Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  9. Perform other assigned duties as needed.

What you will bring:

  1. Proficiency in a second language is highly advantageous, particularly Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, and/or Somali.
  2. Possession of a Social Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma, or equivalent qualification, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of relevant practical experience working with newcomer youth.
  3. Familiar with the challenges and barriers diverse youth face, specifically challenges faced by newcomers to Canada, along with the capacity to engage youth and knowledge of motivating them.
  4. Advanced computer skills required using the following programs: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Adobe; any program database.
  5. Excellent communication, organization, time management, and coordination skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to model Wesley's mission, vision, and values.
  7. Proven ability to work effectively with newcomer clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  8. Extensive knowledge of community programs, services, and resources; specific knowledge of the settlement services and integration process.
  9. Available to work flexible/irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
  10. Non-violent crisis intervention and First Aid/CPR training are required.
  11. A Valid Driver's License with access to a vehicle is required.
