The Team

The Role
The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Program offers a unique opportunity for early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience, receive dedicated mentorship, and build a strong foundation for a successful engineering career. Working under the direction and mentorship of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) across a variety of engineering disciplines, you'll contribute to meaningful projects while developing technical expertise, project management skills, and professional competencies required for registration as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Through diverse assignments, collaborative learning, and exposure to complex infrastructure challenges, you'll gain the knowledge, confidence, and experience needed to thrive in your engineering career.

Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an EGBC recognized and accredited post-secondary institution in one of the following disciplines (program completion by spring 2027 or within the last five (5) years (since spring 2022)):
  • Civil engineering with a focus on transportation or a related field.
  • Civil engineering with a focus on highway geometrics design or a related field.
  • Civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
  • Geological engineering, materials engineering and civil engineering with a focus on geotechnical and/or materials engineering.
• Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training with EGBC and must obtain registration within thirty (30) days of start date.
• Must be immediately eligible to accept permanent work in Canada.
• Valid Canadian Driver’s Licence; a valid BC Class 5 or 7 Driver’s Licence is required.

As related to the position, preference may be given to applicants with the following:

• Relevant educational specialization and/or coursework; and/or,
• Related experiential learning/training (e.g. practicums/placements, co-ops, volunteer work, work experience, etc.).

Willingness Statements:

• Willing and able to relocate within British Columbia throughout the Program.
• Willing and able to pursue registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC at the earliest opportunity.
• Willing and able to travel, drive, and work outdoors in varying weather, terrain, and site conditions, including ascending or descending structures and working in active constructions sites.
• Willing and able to deliver presentations and participate in public and partner engagement activities.
• Willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime as operationally required.

About this Position:
We are currently recruiting for five (5) permanent, full-time EIT positions in various locations across BC.
These opportunities apply to recent graduates (since spring 2022, or those about to graduate in spring 2027) with a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering from an EGBC accredited post-secondary institution, with a focus on highway geometrics, traffic transportation, structural, and geotechnical disciplines.
Current vacancies may be performed in Coquitlam, Kamloops, Prince George or Victoria; other locations may be considered subject to Ministry operational requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Positions are under implemented at the Licensed Science Officer (LSO) 1B classification. Upon completion of the EIT program, the full working level classification is Licensed Science Officer 3B - Designated Professional Engineer.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
