Manitoba Emergency Management Organization (Manitoba EMO) serves as the provincial lead for coordinating emergency management activities across Manitoba. Manitoba EMO works with municipalities, Indigenous communities, provincial and federal governments, emergency services, non-government organizations, and the private sector to help ensure Manitoba is prepared for, responds to, and recovers from emergencies and disasters.
Duties:
Key Responsibilities of Manitoba EMO
- Emergency Preparedness: Supports communities and organizations in developing emergency plans, training, exercises, and preparedness programs.
- Emergency Response Coordination: Coordinates provincial response efforts during emergencies such as floods, wildfires, severe storms, and other hazards to protect lives, property, and the environment.
- Disaster Recovery: Leads and coordinates recovery activities following disasters and helps communities return to normal operations.
- Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA): Administers Manitoba's Disaster Financial Assistance Program, which provides financial support to eligible individuals, municipalities, organizations, and businesses affected by significant disasters.
- Risk Reduction, Mitigation and Resilience: Works with partners to identify hazards, reduce risks, and strengthen Manitoba's resilience to future emergencies through mitigation, planning, education, and collaboration.
