Mechanical Commissioning Project Specialist

As a Mechanical Commissioning Project Specialist, you will represent Maintenance during the design, construction, commissioning, and handover of capital and upgrade projects within wastewater treatment facilities. You will provide mechanical subject matter expertise to ensure new and modified mechanical systems and equipment are designed, installed, and commissioned in a safe, reliable, and maintainable condition. Primary duties include:

• Review mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications for maintainability, accessibility, constructability, and safe installation in active wastewater treatment facilities.
• Identify design deficiencies, risks, and constraints affecting installation, commissioning, or asset performance, and recommend improvements to reliability, safety, lifecycle requirements, and maintenance standards.
• Coordinate mechanical design, construction, and commissioning activities to align work with plant constraints and project objectives.
• Plan mechanical shutdowns, isolations, lockout/tagout, and tie-ins to safely integrate new or modified systems into existing operations.
• Support commissioning plans by confirming mechanical readiness for testing, startup, and performance verification in a live plant environment.
• Support handover to maintenance by confirming systems are understood, deficiencies are addressed, and equipment is ready for ongoing operation and maintenance.
• Support mechanical procedures, training materials, and documentation to enable effective transition from project delivery to maintenance operations.

Qualifications

• A Journeyperson certification as an Industrial Mechanic, Millwright, Plumber, or another mechanical or industrial trade, with the interprovincial red seal endorsement or an equivalent recognized mechanical trade certification; OR
• A completed Engineering Technologist (or related) diploma.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible, hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, installation, and commissioning of industrial process equipment.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, along with thorough planning, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.

Working Conditions: Office and field environment within active wastewater treatment facilities, with exposure to plant conditions, noise, odors, mechanical equipment, and gases. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at times. Pre-employment Requirements
