As a Commissioning Project Operator, you will be the liaison between Water Treatment Operations and Water Services during the design, construction and commissioning of new Water Treatment capital projects. Primary duties include:

  • Facilitate and conduct performance optimization tests.
  • Commission Water Treatment processes for distributed Control System (DCS) upgrades.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, process control narratives (PCN) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for accuracy. Confirm functionality of system and provide recommendations to improve functionality for operations.
  • Meet with infrastructure delivery engineers and consulting engineers to develop PCNs.
  • Ensure the correct implementation of PCN by attending Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Liaise with operators and process engineers for a broad spectrum of input.
  • Attend construction, progress and commissioning meetings to track project progress and coordinate shutdowns with plant operations that may be required.
  • Meet with consulting engineers and construction managers to develop detailed commissioning plans for projects.
  • Support meetings for commissioning activities specific to internal Water Treatment partners
  • Meet with engineers and partners to develop standard operating procedures.
  • Plan and develop schedule for roll out of training materials to Operations for the duration of projects.
  • Support the delivery of training materials for Operations.
  • Support operational and maintenance needs.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2-year diploma and at least 5 years of related experience with existing water treatment processes, equipment, control system monitoring and applications, customer service and working with water treatment frontline operations.
  • An Alberta Environment and Protected Areas certificate in Water Treatment (level 3).
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • A strong understanding of water treatment processes and systems.
  • The ability to interpret and validate P&IDs, PCNs, and control system designs.
  • Experience conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) will be an asset.
  • Strong communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate effectively.

Working Conditions: Office environment with site visits to water treatment plants, secondary pump stations and reservoirs.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
