As the Team Lead, Operations Engineer, you will supervise a team of professional engineers who provide direct field support and expertise to operations, maintenance, and repair crews servicing the wastewater collection network. Primary duties include:

  • Direct supervision for team career planning, professional development, workload balancing and prioritization, sponsor/SME engagement, coordination of internal and external requests, and safety compliance.
  • Support and oversight of key components of team projects including procurement strategies, stage gate submissions, capital reporting, and project management for small to medium scale capital projects.
  • Monitor, work assignment, negotiation, and recommendations for by-pass pumping permit requests.
  • Monitor, escalation, and resolution of customer inquiries and complaints through 311.
  • Build positive working relationships through daily interaction with planning, delivery, and operational teams in the water utility, other City business units, and development partners dealing with establishing guidelines, specifications, and operations and maintenance requirements for existing infrastructure as well as through asset acquisition (both built and donated) including design reviews, commissioning, and asset handover.
  • Provide engineering oversight and maintain professional practice within the section.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience must include design, construction and/or inspection of underground utilities with preference given to field experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to innovate and adapt in a collaborative environment, and well-developed communication and leadership skills would be a strong asset.
  • Experience in procurement, financial reporting, and performance metrics would be an asset.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
