Engineer-In-Training - Information Technology - Wireless

As the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) - Wireless, you will focus on providing engineering support to the Strategic Investment & Collaboration division of Information Technology (IT). As a designated technical resource working with senior engineers, the EIT performs:

• Actively assist in the execution of telecommunication operational projects, such as Mobile Device Management Evaluation, Wireless Service Implementation and In-Building Cellular Coverage Enhancement, encompassing tasks including requirement gathering, technical specification definition, and assisting in project management throughout the planning, execution, and commissioning phases.
• Optimize and implement procedures for established processes and workflows.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to analyze telecommunication service financial expenditure, including the collection and reporting of the total cost of telecommunication service operations.
• Administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise mobility solutions.
• Provide operational support for wireless communication infrastructure and devices operation, encompassing tasks such as troubleshooting and resolving system/network failures, surveying cellular coverage on sites, documenting scripts for IT Help Desk support, and conducting wireless service system upgrades and testing.
• Assist in the supervision of contractors and vendors responsible for operational systems, facility maintenance, and enhancements.

Qualifications

• A degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering or a related Engineering field) and current licensure as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) by the first day of work.
• Experience with the following areas are considered assets: Mobile Device Management, Wireless networks including 5G, LTE (Long Term Evolution), and ultra-narrow band, 2-way radio communication, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Access Point Name (APN), firewalls, Internet of Things (IoT), wearable technology, mobile devices, and operating systems, MS Structured Query Language (SQL), SQL Servers and database administration, Power Business Intelligence (BI), Windows server, PowerShell scripting and MS Power Platform.
• Experience in Project Management and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications are considered assets.
• Experience with tier 2 or tier 3 hardware and systems support for wireless communication services, testing and certifying wireless products (iPhones, Android phones, Aircards, and modems) are considered assets.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending would be considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a team environment working collaboratively with both technical and non-technical customers and vendors.
• Strategic and analytical thinker with strong organizational, and project management skills.

Workstyle

• This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
