Supervisor, Municipal Fleet Maintenance

Are you a proven operational leader with a track record of driving reliability, safety, and performance in large-scale fleet operations? Reporting directly to the Director, Municipal Fleet Maintenance, the Supervisor, Municipal Fleet Maintenance provides operational oversight, leadership, and daily management for municipal fleet maintenance facilities serving the City of Edmonton. In this high-impact role, you will be directly accountable for ensuring maximum fleet availability, safety, and fiscal performance in direct support of vital municipal services. You will oversee a direct operational budget of $8M to $10M while maintaining strict alignment with corporate safety standards, collective agreements, and service level agreements (SLAs). Working within an integrated business model and a unionized, fast-paced environment, you will balance financial management, facility maintenance, and client relations to foster an engaged, high-trust team that consistently demonstrates the efficient use of resources. Success in this role means building a safe, economical, and highly effective operational unit that earns the confidence of the Fleet & Facilities Services Leadership Team and delivers dependable vehicles to keep Edmonton moving forward. What will you do? - Oversee round-the-clock maintenance activities—including preventative maintenance, running repairs, overhauls, and emergency road response—while managing work order capacity to maintain peak fleet availability and meet client SLAs - Evaluate complex mechanical repairs with technical teams, balancing lifecycle costs against operational requirements while collaborating with supply chain teams to resolve inventory bottlenecks - Administer CUPE 30 and CSU 52 collective agreements, managing shop-level dispute resolutions, initial grievance investigations, and formal disciplinary processes - Direct, coach, and evaluate Forepersons to maintain frontline work quality, setting performance standards and managing development plans and underperformance directly - Direct shift rotations, sign-up processes, and overtime authorizations based strictly on operational demand and budget limitations - Actively enforce the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation, and Code alongside the City of Edmonton Safety Management System across all assigned facilities - Lead formal hazard assessments, workplace inspections, and root-cause incident investigations (SDMS), implementing corrective actions and managing return-to-work programs - Hold full operational accountability for an assigned $8M–$10M budget, monitoring monthly variance reports and applying immediate corrective spending measures as needed - Audit job orders, repair throughput, and technician hours in M5/AssetWorks and PeopleSoft to optimize bay utilization and maintain accurate labor accounting - Coordinate garage infrastructure needs with Facility Maintenance Services, participating in facility growth planning and delivering performance metrics and risk mitigation strategies to the Director
