As a Planner I on the Environmental Review Team, you will evaluate complex land development proposals to ensure land is safe and suitable for intended uses. You will apply professional risk assessments, environmental guidelines, and municipal policies regarding safe urban growth near pipelines, railway corridors, and oil and gas infrastructure. This role collaborates across departments and with industry partners to solve unique planning challenges and support orderly growth. What will you do? - Evaluate Land Development Applications (LDAs) for Area Structure Plans, Neighbourhood Structure Plans, Rezonings, Subdivisions, and Development Permits for environmental suitability and risk compliance - Apply and implement recommendations from professionally prepared Risk Assessment Reports and technical studies - Analyze Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and coordinate reviews with internal engineering teams, Alberta Health Services, and provincial regulatory bodies - Negotiate with land development applicants and facility operators to resolve site-specific constraints, legacy issues, and policy compliance requirements - Maintain and update internal databases, GIS records, and administrative guidelines, including Risk and Environmental Site Assessment guidebooks - Provide technical planning expertise to broader municipal initiatives like the City Plan, District Plans, and Zoning Bylaw implementation - Prepare comprehensive reports, bylaw packages, and presentations for City Council public hearings and answer technical inquiries
