Electrical Safety Codes Officer II

The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated professional to help ensure our community remains safe and compliant. If you are passionate about electrical safety and enjoy a mix of technical plan review and on-site inspections, this is the role for you! As an Electrical Safety Codes Officer II, you will administer provincial safety code authority duties by reviewing electrical plans and inspecting new systems or alterations in residential and commercial buildings. You will work independently to interpret regulations, audit for compliance with the Safety Codes Act and Canadian Electrical Code, and collaborate with community partners to resolve technical issues. What will you do? - Review permit applications and electrical plans for compliance with bylaws, codes, and municipal standards - Conduct site inspections during various construction stages to ensure alignment with approved plans and safety legislation - Issue, withhold, or revoke permits based on assessment findings and ensure all deficiencies are corrected - Provide technical interpretations of the Canadian Electrical Code to contractors, developers, and homeowners - Maintain accurate records and input relevant data into POSSE and other management systems - Identify safety code infractions and assess necessary repairs for structures to meet required standards - Collaborate with internal departments like Fire Rescue Services and Alberta Health Services for coordinated approvals
