The I&IT Enterprise Solutions and Justice and Public Safety Solutions Division is seeking 2 dynamic and innovative database professionals to join their team as they modernize the decision-making process for the Ontario government.
The first position available is a Senior Database Administrator who can provide technical consulting expertise in data management and database administration. If you are able to use your project management and team leadership skills in the design and development of data management structures and large-scale database administration, then this role may be for you!
The second position is a Database Administrator in which you will design, implement, tune, and sustain database management systems that are the foundation for Ontario's government decision-making process and reporting. You will also ensure compliance with security, cost optimization, and technology standards. About the jobThe Database Administrator role is an enterprise database design and architecture position. It focuses on:
• Database design and implementation
• Data modelling
• Technical standards and governance
• Providing expert advice to development teams
• Database optimization and performance monitoring
• Technical leadership and training
The role is centered on ensuring databases are designed, implemented, and maintained according to IT Cluster standards.
The Senior Database Administrator role is an operations-focused position supporting mission-critical environments. It focuses on:
• 24/7 production support
• Database administration and performance tuning
• Oracle and SQL database management
• Disaster recovery and backup/recovery solutions
• Incident, problem, and change management
• Enterprise data management and information architecture
• Database migrations, upgrades, and optimization
The role requires hands-on expertise with database platforms and operational support tools.

Technical Knowledge and Database Administration Skills• You have knowledge of enterprise database management technologies, database design methodologies, data modelling concepts, database structures and database development practices.
• You have experience designing, implementing, maintaining and optimizing databases that support complex business applications and mission-critical systems.
• You can provide technical expertise and advice on database design standards, development approaches and database administration best practices.
Database Operations, Performance, Security and Recovery Expertise• You have experience monitoring and maintaining database performance, availability and reliability within enterprise environments.
• You can troubleshoot and resolve complex production database issues and implement effective performance tuning solutions.
• You have knowledge of database backup, recovery, disaster recovery and security practices to ensure data integrity and operational continuity.
Technical Infrastructure and Emerging Technology Knowledge• You have knowledge of database platforms, operating systems, tools and technologies used within large-scale enterprise environments.
• You can assess, evaluate and recommend database technologies, software and technical solutions to support business and operational requirements.
• You have experience supporting and implementing database solutions within complex multi-platform environments.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills• You can analyze complex technical and business requirements and develop effective database solutions and recommendations.
• You can evaluate design alternatives, conduct feasibility assessments and identify risks, impacts and opportunities associated with proposed solutions.
• You can research emerging technologies, assess their applicability and provide recommendations that support organizational goals and service delivery requirements.
Communication, Consultation and Relationship Management Skills• You can communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• You can prepare reports, technical documentation, recommendations and presentations to support decision-making and operational objectives.
• You can provide consultation, technical guidance and collaborative support to stakeholders, project teams and clients while building effective working relationships.
