Overview

The HSE Advisor will assist the Regional HSE Manager in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs and initiatives across the Ontario, Canada Region. The primary focus of this role will be to support projects and office locations throughout Ontario. Additionally, the HSE Advisor will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the AtkinsRéalis HSE management system and all relevant HSE legislation. Your role
  • Support the Regional HSE Manager and business leaders in the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs across the Ontario region.
  • Assist with the development, review, and implementation of HSE plans, procedures, safe work practices, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to meet regulatory, client, and AtkinsRéalis requirements.
  • Conduct site visits, workplace inspections, audits, and HSE assurance activities to monitor compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide HSE guidance and support to project teams, supervisors, and workers on the application of company HSE standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver HSE orientations, inductions, toolbox talks, and other training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Coordinate HSE training requirements, maintain training records, and assist in the development of training materials and awareness initiatives.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and event management processes, including the development and tracking of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor and subcontractor HSE performance and compliance with regulatory, client, and company requirements.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, training documentation, incident reports, and performance metrics.
  • Support regional office and facility HSE programs, including first aid, emergency preparedness, fire safety, PPE management, and Joint Health and Safety Committee activities.
  • Assist project personnel and contractors in conducting safety observations and reporting HSE events through designated reporting systems.
  • Analyze HSE performance data, incident trends, and leading indicators to identify risks and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable occupational health, safety, environmental legislation, industry best practices, standards, and emerging HSE trends.

About you
  • Certificate/Diploma and/or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications are considered a strong asset.
  • Certification in HSE auditing systems such as ISO / COR are considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably within engineering and construction, utility, and/or industrial sectors.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining HSE management systems while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable HSE provincial and federal legislation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of internal and external HSE auditing processes, including audit planning, execution, and follow‑up.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint etc.), with the ability to create reports, presentations, and data analysis tools.
  • A self‑starter/solution‑focused individual with excellent communication, organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
