Reporting to the Senior Manager of Development, the Technical Lead is accountable for the technical direction and delivery of web application solutions in a Microsoft-based development stack. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, guiding developers through solution design, implementation, testing, release, production support, and modernization activities.

You will work closely with Software Developers, Business Analysts, Quality Assurance Analysts, Product Owners, Support teams, infrastructure partners, security partners, and other technology stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, maintainable solutions for financial advisors, their teams and our clients.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Lead the technical design and implementation of web-based business applications and services built on Microsoft technologies.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, including analysis, estimation, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Own or coordinate solution design decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, privacy, resilience, and technology standards.
  • Break down complex initiatives into clear technical work, identify dependencies and risks, and support realistic delivery planning with Product Owners and Business Analysts.
  • Remain an active contributor to the codebase, particularly for complex features, integrations, prototypes, critical defects, and reusable components.
  • Establish and reinforce development standards for code quality, automated testing, logging, observability, performance, accessibility, and secure development.
  • Lead technical implementation activities across non-production and production environments, including release readiness, deployment coordination, validation, and rollback planning.
  • Provide technical leadership during production incidents, coordinate troubleshooting, perform root cause analysis, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed.
  • Identify and drive improvements to application architecture, engineering processes, CI/CD pipelines, operational support, resilience, and technical documentation.
  • Assess technical debt, application currency, vulnerabilities, and lifecycle risks; recommend and help prioritize remediation and modernization work.
  • Partner with infrastructure, cloud, database, network, security, and vendor teams to resolve cross-platform issues and deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Mentor developers, promote knowledge sharing, and strengthen the team's technical capability through coaching, pairing, technical discussions, and constructive feedback.
  • Communicate technical options, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions within the Bank's risk appetite, policies, and culture.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience developing and supporting web applications, including experience providing technical leadership on complex initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Web API, and object-oriented software design and development.
  • Strong experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs, distributed application components, and enterprise system integrations.
  • Strong experience with a front-end framework and modern user interface development practices.
  • Strong experience with SQL, relational databases, data modelling, query optimization, and application-data integration.
  • Practical knowledge of Azure cloud services and cloud-native design considerations, including identity, configuration, monitoring, scalability, and resilience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying secure software development practices, including authentication, authorization, secrets management, dependency management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, automated builds, testing, release pipelines, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery practices.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC dependencies across applications, infrastructure, databases, networks, security, and client/server environments.
  • Knowledge of Agile development practices and experience leading technical delivery within a cross-functional Agile team.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority, build consensus, manage technical ambiguity, and make pragmatic decisions under delivery pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to varied audiences.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience with application observability, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, structured logging, and operational dashboards.
  • Knowledge of application resilience, disaster recovery, high availability, capacity planning, and performance engineering.
  • Experience with modernization of legacy .NET applications and incremental adoption of cloud services.
  • Experience coordinating work across employees, contractors, vendors, and shared enterprise technology teams.
